It begins by narrating their rise when Harvey Milk was elected into office who happened to be an openly gay man. This was the first gay man to be elected into public office and is where the story begins. It shows that at first, gays lived the good life which unlike other communities, they were too abused. However, as the ‘70s ended and the ‘80s began, a new problem occurs which would begin an age of darkness for the gay community of San Francisco.
Particularly, this film deals with the quick and strong outbreak of the AIDS virus within the gay community of San Francisco. It basically discusses the life of gays in San Francisco before the AIDS epidemic, during the course of the AIDS epidemic, as well as the aftermath which has been given by the AIDS epidemic.
